Literally the BEST bagels in NYC

Not far from Bryant Park, and a stones throw from Penn Station, you will find the best bagels in New York.

Considering this will be the most controversial post, as bagel preference is wildly personal, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention up front that the best bagels ever in the history of the land are actually not in New York City, but rather a few hours away in a Connecticut suburb where I grew up, West Hartford. My friends, Lox Stock & Bagels in West Hartford, Connecticut makes the best bagels – and cream cheese, if we’re being honest – that you will ever have.

But, assuming you are more likely to find yourself in New York City and in search of narrowing down where to find the best, let me direct you to literally the best bagels, at Best Bagels & Coffee. I’m not going to lie, the first time I came here, I did feel like The Elf and wanted to proclaim “congratulations, guys, you did it!” but, I held back once I stepped inside and immediately found myself at the end of a very, very long line.

In what could be a lesson in efficiency, the line moves in an expedited fashion as staff took orders from regulars and tourists alike, getting your bagel and coffee order set in no time. The choices can be wildly overwhelming, so let me make it easy for you, get the everything bagel, and if you want to make nice with the nice person taking your order, don’t get it toasted. These bagels are so fresh that toasting them will take away from the bagel-gooey-goodness. Now, I recommend the scallion cream cheese, but this works with plain as well, of course.

Grab a regular coffee with your bagel to go, and walk a few blocks, and in less than 10 minutes find yourself in Bryant Park where seats are aplenty and you can enjoy one of the best bagels you have ever had!

Disclaimer: I have had Russ & Daughters, and I definitely recommend experiencing the original deli and ordering one of their incredible bagels and lox, but for a classic standby that has yet to disappoint, I always get Best Bagels & Coffee when I am in the city.
